Sleep and Mental health during pregnancy

Pregnant mother holding belly looking happy

As an expecting parent, you may be getting a lot of advice about sleep. For example, you may hear how you should get as much sleep as you can now, as you likely won’t get any sleep when your baby arrives.

The truth is that all babies (and parents) are different and so are our sleep habits.

Sleep supports our mental health and wellbeing. Getting a good amount of sleep each night can increase your energy levels, improve your mood and ability to handle stress, and have positive impacts on physical health too.

However, getting a good night’s rest can be challenging, particularly during pregnancy.

If you’re feeling concerned about the quality of your sleep, and the impact of poor sleep on your wellbeing, your doctor and other antenatal healthcare providers can help you explore ways to improve your sleep.
